I am pretty sure when the great people at Etekcity sent me the Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer they thought I was going to be grown up about it. They were wrong! You see my girls and I watch MythBusters and we have wanted one of these things to play with for a LONG TIME! Boy have we put it to go use. We’ve used it for experiments, tested it on each other, the pool, we’ve take the temperature of the driveway, the walkway, and inside the car. Then my husband used it for some thing practical, but I’ll get to that. It’s not designed to test food, but we could help but take the temp of our pizza and we did it all through dinner – it never lost its amusement value.
The Etekcity Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer has got to be the easiest way to measure temperature. It is easy to operate, this thermometer turns on and begins reading the temperature with just one press of the trigger. Clear texts displays the measured text on a backlit display which can be turned off or on as needed. The temperature is displayed in either Celsius or Fahrenheit. There is a laser light that aids in aiming if it is needed. This IR Thermometer has a huge range in temperatures from below zero to super hot temperatures.
My family likes to use the Etekcity Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer to measure the temperature of the grill since the thermometer on the lid of the grill never works correctly. We also use it get the temperature of the smoker so we know how hot the smoker kits. This thermometer does not take the internal temperature of food so a probe type thermometer is still needed for that. My husband uses the thermometer to check the temperature of the air coming out of the ducts to make sure that our AC unit is working properly.

Response time of the temperature is very quick at 500ms. Its accuracy is plus or minus 2% or just 2 degrees Celsius. The closer you are to the item that you are measuring the more accurate reading you will get. The reason for this is that beam is considered a conical beam and the further away you are the more space you are trying to read the temperature of. Think of it like a triangle and the IR thermometer is at the base and the beam goes into the top point.
