Ridiculously Simple Fitted Face Mask Pattern – Quilted Face Masks #Coronavirus #Covid19 #FaceMask #Mask #QuiltedFaceMasks

Now that the government has gone all wishy washy over the necessity of face masks to combat COVID-19, face masks are even more in demand. Plain, unfiltered fabric face masks provide little protection. I’m hoping quilted face masks will prove more protection.

The downloadable files are at the bottom of the post.

There are 2 sizes. The smaller face masks fit me, the larger fits my husband. Whether you use the larger or smaller pattern, the directions are the same.

From page 1: Cut 2 fabric pieces and cut 2 batting pieces.
From page 2: Cut 2 Fabric pieces.
(I read a Cambridge study that indicated that 2 layers of tea towels are as effective as surgical masks, so batting must be around N95 status lol)

Layer batting, fabric, fabric, batting (from the page 1) and sew that together down the middle curve.

Sew down each side of the seam to make it a little stiffer. (This will be the inside)

Sew the other 2 layers of fabric (from page 2), together down the middle curve.

Place the ‘outside’ sides of both pieces together so they are touching each other and the batting is on the other side and sew the top and the bottom together.

Flip right side out.

Iron flat-ish. It’s hard to iron something flat when it’s curved.

Sew on the top and bottom edge to make it a bit stiffer to help it keep its form.

Fold the sides over and sew down one side.

Cut ribbon, elastic, something that can be used to hook the mask around the ears.

I cut the ribbon for the smaller masks to 12 inches, it gives me a little extra to tie in the knot at the end.
For the best fit, tie the ear loops while wearing the mask. Sometimes this takes 2 people, but it will fit better.
