Stephanie here! I can’t believe the summer is almost over – and the kids are going back to school. My own daughters are getting ready – E will be a sophomore in high school, and G will be a sophomore in college. They both seem pretty excited to go back – the summer has been beautiful and fun, but summer jobs have lost their luster, and both girls are ready to hit the books. When G returns to school at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts, she will be sharing a dorm room with two other girls. The room is “cozy,” so the three roommates are all trying to figure out the best way to share appliances and save space. One of the things that I am insisting that they make room for is the Brita Space Saving Pitcher, which will fit easily into their mini-fridge. I can’t be there all the time to control what G is eating (and three a.m. pizza really is part of the college experience), but I can make sure that she has access to clean, fresh water whenever she is thirsty. The Brita pitcher holds 6 8-ounce glasses of water, so it is easy for G to fill up her water bottle every morning before class and take it with her. Then she always has tasty water when she is in the room studying, hanging out with her roommates, or watching TV. We have used a Brita pitcher at home for a long time, and we love it, so she is used to using it. But the Brita Space Saving Pitcher is even improved over what we have been using. They make it so easy to use that you have no excuse for not drinking water all the time. This filter can be changed twice as quickly, and you no longer have to pre-soak the filter and deal with the little black flecks from the filter. The cover flips back for easier filling, and locks into place so that you don’t have spillage. It is important to me that G has a Brita pitcher, because getting enough water is so important to our health. Water is involved in virtually every process that is performed by our bodies. According to Duke University studies, thirst is caused by just a 1% reduction of water in our bodies. A 10% reduction in water results in delirium and blurred vision. A reduction of 20% of the water in our bodies results in death. A woman’s body is about 50% water. Water is responsible for allowing us to digest nutrients, remove waste and toxins from the body, and maintaining a pH, electrolyte, and temperature balance. But we don’t always hydrate ourselves as well as we should, and teens and young adults aren’t any better at it. We are much more likely to drink water if it tastes good, and the Brita Space Saving Pitcher makes water taste good. It filters out the chlorine taste and odor from tap water, and also filters out zinc, copper, mercury and cadmium if you have any of those in your water. So not only are the girls drinking delicious, cold, clear water, but they are not adding toxins to their bodies. Hydration is so important for all of us, but especially for teens and young adults. Your college student is often running in a million different directions at once, between school, activities, sports, and social events. This means that healthy eating and drinking often take a backseat to convenience. The Brita Space Saving Pitcher is easy and convenient, greatly increasing the chances that our children will choose water over soda or drinks with high sugar and fructose content. When G and I went shopping for her supplies, I made sure that the Brita pitcher was on the list. It is available at Target and you can save 10% with the Target Cartwheel App. If you sign up for the free Subscribe and Save program at Target, you will get 5% off of the Brita filters, have them send directly to your student, and not even pay for shipping! If you are concerned about your child’s health, and let’s face it – we all are – then give them a better chance at health and hydration with the Brita Space Saving Pitcher. You can’t keep your child from staying up until all hours cramming for an exam or hanging out with friends, and you can’t make sure that she eats regular, healthy meals, but you can set her on the road to a healthy lifestyle with the Brita Space Saving Pitcher
